Rachel and Reece run for Research

Story

Hello family and friends,

My husband Reece and I have entered in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival, and on Sunday 22nd September will run across the Sydney Harbour Bridge in my very first Half Marathon!

To mark this achievement we have decided to raise money for The Centenery Institute. They conduct medical research into diagnostics, treatments and cures for cancer, cardiovascular, immunological and infectious diseases.

The Centenery Institite is especially close to our hearts as this is where research is conducted into Sudden Cardiac Deaths in young people.

On August 13 2006,  Reece's youngest brother, healthy 19 year old Heath, suddenly died. There was no warning, no symptoms and of course no goodbyes.

This sudden cardiac death strikes healthy normal young people.

As if the shock of losing Heath wasn't enough, we were to learn that this is a genetic condition, with the chance that this could happen again to another family member. This is when the Centenery Institute came into our lives, providing information, and much needed support.

Professor Chris Semsarian heads a research team aiming to prevent sudden cardiac death through early diagnosis and treatment.

"My ultimate goal is to correct abnormal gene messages to prevent sudden cardiac death in young people. "

-Professor Chris Semsarian

Our hope is that through this research, young lives will be saved, and especially that our beautiful sons will not be affected.

We would welcome any contribution, great or small, that you could make!

Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to my charity of choice.

Thanks so much for your support!
