Anna Runs the Desert

Hi there!

From 24 - 30 September 2017 I will be competing in the Grand to Grand Ultra in Utah, USA.  The Grand to Grand (G2G) is a self-supported footrace covering 273km of remote desert terrain in 6 stages over 7 days. The race starts at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and finishes at the summit of the Grand Staircase monument. Self-supported means I am required to carry everything I need for the week on my back (including food, sleeping materials, medical supplies). Water is distributed to us at various checkpoints on course and the race organisers provide a communal tent for sleeping in the evenings. It is a rugged event with the comforts of home (electronic devices, fresh food, showers!!) left behind for the 7 days. 

Whilst a massive physical challenge, my goal is to not just complete the event, but to raise $10,000 for Children's Cancer Institute in the process. Children's cancer research is a cause close to my heart after my 'adopted' niece, Molli, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2012 at 3yrs of age. Thankfully, Molli is in remission and is a happy and healthy 8yr old, but sadly, childhood cancer is still the most frequent cause of children dying from disease in Australia.  Nearly three Australian children succumb to this terrible disease every week.
