UPDATE

So the 2021 marathon dream may be over…

The Sydney marathon has been cancelled and Canberra is in lockdown…

But Mark and Patrice still want to do something because we have received such strong support already and we are really passionate about Autism Awareness and we want to support this worthy cause.

Our new challenge…

24 hours

Running 1 km every hour on the hour… that’s 1 km EACH on the same treadmill (thankfully not at the same time, although I might need Mark to carry me!)

Totaling 48 kms combined

Mark thinks he has got this in the bag because he works shift… I obviously like to punish myself because I love my sleep and I’m coming off a knee injury.

It’s been a tough few weeks for our family, but we are looking forward to focusing on this goal and smashing it! We want to teach Duke and Mia that there are so many things that they can achieve, even if they feel out of reach.

••• The world needs all kinds of minds •••

The new date for our run will be Saturday 2 October and the start time to be confirmed but most likely early morning.

Thank you for following and supporting us! Patrice and Mark xo

--------------------

Hi everyone

Last year Patrice successfully ran her first marathon around Lake Burley Griffin. It was a triumphant moment and Patrice was closely supported by Mark on his bike. The original plan was to run the Sydney marathon, but it was cancelled (COVID!) and as the ticket was reissued for this year, now is the chance to run over the Harbour Bridge! And this year... Mark is off his support bike and has enthusiastically/reluctantly/excitedly agreed to run his first marathon! We will be running the Sydney Marathon on Sunday 19 September.

We will be juggling working full time, Mark on a shift pattern, raising our two children Duke and Mia, plus pushing through the Canberra winter and the frosty (freezing!!) mornings!

This is also an opportunity for us to give back and raise funds for charity. Our son Duke was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD late last year. It has been an emotional and eye opening experience from the lengthy diagnosis stages and to even now trying to work out if we are on the right path. Duke is loved, happy, intelligent and has an engineering mind that creates the most amazing Lego builds!

Duke is the first of our two biggest fans and brings joy, humour and cheekiness into our lives everyday. He is an inspiration and pushes us to continue challenging ourselves. Mia adores her big brother and is the loud to his quiet, the small to his big and the eccentric partner in crime.

Our chosen charity is Autism Awareness Australia. If you can, we encourage you to donate.

The world needs all kinds of minds...

Thank you for your support and please follow our journey, it will be tough! We hope that this inspires you to go after your own goals.

Patrice and Mark

    Autism Awareness Australia ltd

Our goal is simple: to improve the lives of all Australians on the autism spectrum and the families who love them.
We empower parents and carers with quality information and resources. We provide targeted educational programs to families, professionals and the broader community. We support inclusion for people on the autism spectrum… and we have some fun along the way too.
Our campaigns and events have reached millions of Australians. We are proud to have delivered all of our programs free of charge across the country, including rural and regional communities.
Our mission is to spark positive change by increasing education and understanding of autism in Australia. We hope our efforts will lead to earlier diagnosis, access to effective interventions and more meaningful supports to help people on the spectrum reach their full potential.
