Story
Hi there!
On the 7th of March I'll be running a Marathon. One reason is that I'm terrible at Fantasy Football. The other is to raise awareness about the glaring gap between indigenous Australians and the rest of Australia, specifically in the literacy space.
According to the 2019 National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), Only 36% of indigenous year 5 students in very remote areas are at above national minimum reading standards, compared to 96% for non-indigenous students.
While the situation may be Improving, organizations like the Indigenous Literacy Foundation need the help of every day Australians to help fix this issue. Through projects such as Book Supply and Book Buzz, the IFL help to close the gap.
Whilst raising funds isn't the way to close the gap, it is a way. If you can't donate, that's ok! there are many ways to show your support for Australia's first people

Indigenous Literacy Foundation
Being able to read opens so many doors. But in very remote Indigenous communities, books are all too scarce and literacy levels are much lower than anywhere else in Australia. Our purpose is to make a difference to the lives of Indigenous families by not only gifting thousands of new culturally appropriate books - with a focus on early literacy and first language - but also by running programs to inspire the communities to tell and publish their own stories.
