Story
Thanks for checking out my page!
I wanted to see if I can raise awareness to the issue of refugees and people seeking asylum in our society and maybe raise some much needed funds towards a local charity - The Asylum Seekers Center which is an amazing place based in Newtown, Sydney.
I recently cracked my ribs playing soccer so haven't been able to exercise for months. I've decided that I'll be running the coastal path in March from Otford station to the Bundeena ferry terminal which I believe is 28km + (I'll wear my Garmin to measure this properly).
Any support that you can offer will be greatly appreciated :-)
Asylum Seekers Centre Inc
The Asylum Seekers Centre, in Newtown Sydney, provides practical and social support to people seeking asylum while they live in the local community. Each year our professional staff and 400 volunteers assist more than 4,000 people from 95 different countries.
The ASC's broad, holistic service is unique in NSW and includes:
- legal advice
- crisis accommodation and financial support
- health care
- employment assistance
- Food Bank and daily meals
- education classes in English and much more
- social and material support
- recreation programs.
The Centre is 95% funded by community donations. Your support can directly help people seeking asylum find security, safety and practical care.
Seeking asylum is a human right. People seeking asylum have commonly fled conflict, persecution and extreme trauma to seek peace and security. The mission of the Asylum Seekers Centre is to welcome these people and provide essential support, so they can apply for protection in Australia and build new futures for themselves.
The way we say welcome transforms lives.
