HBF-Kawasaki Disease
HBF-Kawasaki Disease
Story
Hi there!
We're running in the HBF, Run for a Reason, to raise awareness and funding for Kawasaki Disease. It's a condition which causes inflammation in the walls of some blood vessels and poor little Colt, Chris' nephew, Jem and Brant's beautiful son has it.
Jem, on Colt's journey navigating Kawasaki Disease;
At 5 months old Colt developed Kawasaki Disease which causes extreme inflammation of the blood vessels in the body and spent 2 months at the Monash Children's hospital being treated for this.
It is not currently know what specifically causes this disease only that it is triggered by viruses. Colt was an especially rare case of Kawasaki Disease in that it took several different intravenous treatments over the two months to get the inflammation under control. Most cases cases, if caught early enough, would be treated once and would recover in a couple of days.
Having had this inflammation for such a long period has caused Colt to suffer from severe dilation of the coronary arteries which he will live with for the rest for his life, also needing to be on daily blood thinners.
So we'd like you to open your wallets while we pop on our running shoes. Every little bit helps and your donation goes directly into helping and supporting little ones and their family affected by this disease.
Donations made of this platform are totally secure and will be remitted directly to the Kawasaki Disease Foundation Australia.
Thanks for you support!
