Story
Hi there and thanks for visiting my fundraising page!
In 2023, our lives changed forever when my Dad received the diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (MND). MND is a progressive disease that affects the nerves that send messages between the brain and the muscles. In particular, this impacts the muscles that help you to move, speak, swallow and breathe.
MND progresses differently for each person, however, the average life expectancy is around two-and-a-half years. The lifetime risk of developing MND is 1 in 300 by the age of 85 with over 2100 Australians living with MND. Unfortunately, at this time, there is no cure for MND and very limited treatment options available.
However, there is still HOPE as researchers continue to search for a cure! To support this much-needed research, I decided to run a full marathon even though I could barely run 200 meters in June 2023. My goal is to run a full 42.2km on July 28th this year (2024) to make a difference in the lives of those living with MND and to show support for my Dad who continues to fight this beast with bravery and courage!
