Story
On Sunday 14th October, I will run 42 km in the Melbourne Marathon http://melbournemarathon.com.au/ and raise funds for the Jimbeyer Boondjhil Indigenous Unit at La Trobe University Bendigo. 'Jimbeyer Boondjhil' means to teach knowledge in Dja Dja Wurrung language. I work at La Trobe in Bendigo and have seen an increased number of First Nation graduates because of this unit. However, additional funds are needed to provide learning materials which reflect Indigenous culture. The funds raised will purchase books on Indigenous ways of knowing and cultural events for students. Together we can increase First Nation university graduates and help maintain indigenous culture. I’d appreciate any contribution, big or small.
Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to my charity of choice.
Thanks so much for your support!
Jimbeyer Boondjhil Indigenous Unit (La Trobe University)
=12pt=11ptThe Jimbeyer Boondjhil Indigenous Unit at La Trobe University Bendigo is located on Dja Dja Wurrung Country. 'Jimbeyer Boondjhil' means to teach knowledge in Dja Dja Wurrung language. The unit is underpinned by both First Nation relational and Western perspectives. It provides education, mentoring and cultural support to First Nation students. We aim to strengthen student ability to overcome challenges connected to participation in higher educationenable and enable First Nation students to excel in their particular discipline. Jimbeyer Boondjhil is also a community centre, facilitating cultural events for Sorry Day and NAIDOC week for the larger Bendigo Aboriginal community.
