Story
Hello! I’m Bec :)
In September 2021 I was admitted to the Marian Centre, a psychiatric inpatient service in Perth, after enduring a 6 month episode of severe depression with psychosis. The treatment I received there, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), was life saving and life restoring. I am grateful to say that I have been recovering and in good health since I was discharged in early October 2021.
A year on, I am back to my half-marathon running ways, this time to fundraise for the Melbourne Marathon on October 2nd 2021. I’ll be continuing to fundraise after the run is over, so there is plenty of time to donate!
This year I am supporting a cause that is dear to my heart; SANE Australia is a not-for-profit that supports people with recurring, persistent or complex mental health issues and trauma. Importantly, it also offers support to their families, friends and communities.
To support my fundraising campaign for SANE, I am releasing a podcast called “Sweaty Pod”! A podcast series that will hopefully offer an insight into what it’s like to live with a mental illness and what it’s like to work in Australia’s mental health sector.
