Hi Everyone

My goal for this year is to run a marathon!!!! My first marathon. I will be running 42km’s in the Perth City to Surf on 31 August 2014.  I’m running for a personal goal but also to raise money for a charity. The charity I’ve chosen is ‘One Girl’.

One Girl believes that every girl has the right to an education in Sierra Leone. At One Girl they focus on empowering women and girls so they can create and lead change in their communities.

Sierra Leone in West Africa is considered to be one of the worst places on earth to be born a girl.  With your donations, it can change – you can give a girl access to an education.

Some facts!!!!
In Sierra Leon, 28% of girls will be married before they turn 15 with more than 70% of people earning less than $2 a day ($2!! *what*!! you can hardly get anything in Australia for $2). A family might be able to send one child to school, but the child selected is almost always a boy (that’s if the have the opportunity to select at all). Teenage pregnancy is one of the common reasons for dropping out of school – some have unprotected sex, others sexually assaulted and some have sex with adults in exchange for gifts or money.

“When a girl is taken out of school, married or pregnant when she’s still a child, the poverty cycle continues. An uneducated girl becomes an uneducated mother, a mother who is more likely to die during childbirth. An uneducated mother is also more likely to lose her children before their fifth birthday. But we can help change this”
