Story

Hi all,

I've decided to do the Bridge Run again! Looking forward to a bit of a challenge and an opportunity to raise money and awareness for an awesome cause. In light of all of these ALS ice bucket challenges we are seeing everywhere (and good on them for it!), please take a moment to think of the other neurological disorders out there affecting people too. I hope you will support me, as one of the main reasons I have chosen to do this is to raise money and awareness for the Shake It Up Australia Foundation, an organisation that is very close to my heart.

In 2011, my Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Parkinson's is a degenerative neurological disorder which affects the control of body movements. Yep - the one that Michael J Fox and Muhammad Ali have. It is a cruel disease, one that took my grandmother from us, and that there is still no known cure for. It is also possible or even likely there is a genetic link, which means I could get it one day too. While my Dad is doing really well keeping active and trying his best to stay ahead of PD, we are already seeing signs of the degenerative process. The Shake It Up Foundation is in partnership with the Michael J Fox Foundation, and together they "are dedicated to finding a cure for PD through an aggressively funded research agenda and to ensure the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today". I cannot begin to express how much a cure would mean.

I hate to be hitting some of you up for money again, but the cause is still so real. There is still no cure. It might mean giving up a few cafe-bought coffees, new piece of clothing, or event out, but it's going to one of the most worthy causes I can think of. Any contribution can make a difference - big or small, I really appreciate it!

Thank you so much,

Jen xo

(I am also happy to take cash donations and submit them online if that makes it easier for people.)

Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to my charity of choice.

Shake It Up Australia Foundation

Shake It Up Australia has a clear mission: To find the cure for Parkinson’s

There are an estimated 100,000 Australians living with Parkinson’s with another 38 diagnosed every day. 20% of those diagnosed are under 50 years old. With your help, we can change this!

Shake It Up has partnered with the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to fund the world’s best research in Australia targeted at finding better treatments and ultimately a cure.

100% OF YOUR DONATION GOES DIRECTLY TO RESEARCH.  THAT’S RIGHT 100%!  Our founding directors cover all general expenses of the Foundation ensuring every cent of your donation makes a real difference in the quest to find a cure for Parkinson’s.

About Shake It Up

Shake It Up Australia Foundation together with our partner at The Michael J. Fox Foundation are the largest non-government funder of Parkinson's research across multiple institutes in Australia.   Founded in 2011 we have funded over $11.5M in research targeted at finding better treatments and ultimately the cure.

The Foundation was established by Clyde Campbell, a father of three and business owner who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009 at the age of 44.

Clyde set out to find out as much as he could about the disease and determine what he could do in a practical sense to assist. His search led him to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) in the United States and the remarkable work they do to fund medical research targeted at finding better treatments on the path to a cure for Parkinson’s disease.

The approach MJFF takes to assessing, funding and project managing the world’s best research all over the globe eliminates redundancy, ensures efficiency and unites the global community in the quest to find a cure.

Clyde realised that funding Parkinson’s research was the best thing that he could do to help himself, his family and the 100,000 other Australians living with the disease. With that clear in his mind, Clyde founded Shake It Up Australia Foundation (SIUAF) to give other Australians the opportunity to join his quest.
