ARC was originally founded in March 2012 by a few personnel deployed to Casey Station Antarctica with the Australian Antarctic Division as a way of stepping outside station limits, enjoying the freedom of running and taking in the majestic environment we were exposed to. Running conditions varied from -5, sunny no wind to -50 C cloud cover with a cool 30 to 40 knot winds.
In an attempt to raise money for Cancer Council Australia Team ARC as a team of four, Dan Vermazen, Jason Blackwell, Fleur Bugarin and Craig George have now set our sights on the XPD Expedition Race ( http://www.xpd.com.au/ ) to be held in August 2015 set amongst the back drop of Tropical North Queensland, Townsville.
It will be the 8th edition of the international XPD Expedition Race where 200+ competitors in teams of four from around the globe, supported by over 100 staff and volunteers, will undertake a 700km+ adventure race involving mountain biking, running, abseiling, climbing and kayaking for five to ten days in this world renowned area, pushing themselves to the ultimate limits of human endurance. Once teams start, racing is 24 hours per day; teams choose when and where they will sleep.
